Land
We currently own five plots of land to eventually house new school buildings for Pre- Primary and Primary buildings, however we cannot move forward as we still need additional plots to provide adequate space to complete the campus. We must purchase an additional five plots of land adjacent to our existing holdings before beginning construction on the new buildings. Total projected cost for the 5 plots: $50,000
School Buildings
Our current school is housed in a re-purposed former tavern. Classrooms are over-crowded and lack ventilation. The “pit toilet” latrine is not adequate for current enrollment and is too close to the school building for hygiene. The two temporary classrooms are built with rudimentary wooden slats and dirt floors that leak water down the insides of the walls during Uganda’s heavy rains, damaging the teachers instructional materials hung around the room and making the classroom floors muddy and slippery. Plans have begun to construct three school buildings, a Pre-Primary for ages 3-5, and two for Primary through grade 6. These buildings will provide classrooms allowing teachers and students ample space for proper learning! Our land, situated on a hill overlooking the village, boasts mango and jackfruit trees, as well as access to water! Your partnership in building these school rooms will change the trajectory of the lives of many children in the village! Total projected cost PER building: $65,000. Total need: $195,000.
Secondary School
Of course children need education beyond primary school to provide them the tools to break the cycle of poverty in their lives and the lives of their future families! Haven-Jjungo must anticipate the need of a secondary school as the students continue to matriculate. Your gift toward the secondary school would first be used to secure the land needed. It is important that we secure land as soon as possible to avoid the driving up of property values that will soon take place as we begin construction on our Pre-Primary and Primary schools. Our planning team forsees the need to purchase 10 plots of land adjacent to our current property holdings. Total projected cost for Secondary School land purchase: $200,000.
